Art and China After 1989: Theater of the World
On display until February 24, this exhibition showcases the works of over 60 artists that “anticipated, chronicled, and agitated sweeping social transformation that saw the rise of China as a global power in the new millennium.” With performance, paintings, photographs, installations, and more, Art and China After 1989 explores questions of identity, ideology, and massive change.
Artist Vija Celmins has been sharing her beautiful interpretations of the night skies, desert floors, and the oceans for more than 50 years. Her work is her means to understand human consciousness in relation to a lived experience. Originally from Los Angeles, Celmins relocated to New York in the ‘80s. To Fix The Imagine In Memory is her first retrospective in over 25 years and includes more than 140 artworks, including paintings, drawings, and sculptures. The exhibition runs until March 31.
The Sea Ranch
Dreamed up and designed by a group of Bay Area architects and designers in the early 1960s, the influential Sea Ranch development was meant to be a progressive and inclusive community, shaped by the pillars of good design and harmony with the environment. This exhibition, The Sea Ranch: Architecture, Environment, and Idealism, which is on until April 28, showcases original sketches and drawings from the project’s designers, along with archival images, photographs of the Sea Ranch as it stands today, and a full-scale replica.
